Fiddler's Folk Art

by Stephen Brander

Folk art has always held a deep resonance with me, rooted in my Nova Scotian upbringing and inspired by the creativity of my father, affectionately known as “Fiddler”. His ingenuity and passion as a blacksmith shaped my own artistic journey. Fiddler’s Forge, his workshop, embodied craftsmanship, imagination, and heart—values I strive to honour in my creations under the name Fiddler’s Folk Art.

My work emerges from an intersection of whimsy and “why not”, transforming blocks of wood into vibrant, narrative-driven creations. With no formal training, I rely on a self-taught approach, guided by curiosity and a fascination with folk art’s ability to turn the mundane into the magical.

Each piece tells a story, often tinged with humour and a nod to the ridiculous.

Based in Moncton, my pieces have found homes across Canada and the US, from galleries in Chéticamp to festival installations, book covers, and more.
