Collection: Wildabout Wampum by Marcia Poirier
Each Wildabout Wampum "objet d'art" is a one-of-a-kind piece, hand-crafted by artisan Marcia Poirier.
Wampum, a Native American term for "money", originally consisted of beads carved from the Quahog shell. These beads were used as currency - a string of beads fetched five British shillings. In the late 1700s, Wampum could still be used to pay tuition at Harvard University.
Today, while it is no longer accepted as currency. Wampum is said to bring the owner good luck in financial matters - making it both beautiful and valuable!
